BIO
Studies
He
finishes the highest degree in Piano (1995) and Composition and Orchestration (1999) at the Conservatori Superior
Municipal de Música de Barcelona with Honor Mention (Piano) and Honor Prize (Composition and Orchestration). The final composition thesis is about John Cage. He receives assistantship
with "Talent Award"
by the University of Hartford (Connecticut) where he studies Piano with Luiz de Moura Castro, Contemporary Music Analysis with James Sellars and Music History and Aesthetics
with Imanuel Willheim, where he finishes two degrees:
Artist Diploma (1992) and Master
in Piano Performance (1993). He has attended many piano and composition courses all over
Europe. He gets the degree
of Psicology at UOC (2007) and Master in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at ACPP (2010).
Teachers
His piano teachers
have been Mercè Bastardes,
Carme Poch and Luiz de Moura
Castro and has also taken advice from
Edith Fisher, Aquilles Delle
Vigne, Joaquin Achúcarro and Stanislav Pochekin
among others. He has studied chamber music with Àngel Soler, Manuel Garcia Morante, Pere Busquets, Albert
Romaní and Dolors Aldea. He has studied
composition with Carles Guinovart and David Padrós and has attended many composition
courses given by Lleonard Balada, Joan
Guinjoan, Jonathan Harvey, José Manuel López López, Bryan Ferneyhough, José Téllez, Salvatore Sciarrino and Walter Zimmermann.
Piano
He
has given many recitals as
a soloist and chamber music all over Europe and
United States. He has been
a member of different contemporary music ensembles like "Sinfonietta",
"Barcelona 216" and "Hartt Contemporary Players", which with he has recorded "Chanson Dada" by James Sellars. He also played at the
opera production "El gato
con botas" by Xavier
Montsalvatge. He has played also
the harpsichord at the Orquestra del Maresme with Jordi Colomer as a conductor.
Composition
As
a composer, he participates,
through the Escola de
Música de Gràcia, at the
Festival de Música dels Joves Europeus in 1998 in Barcelona, with the composition
and recording of the cantata "La Força que mou l'Univers". He was selected by
the JONC in the year 2000 in order to participate at the first Course
of composition where “Mirroring the mirror”
is premiered. His music
“Dialogues” has been also premiered at the
Carnegie Mellon University
(Pittsburg), and its recording is in the CD of contemporary music Avuimúsica 2001 made by Associació Catalana de Compositors. “De facies Luna” has been
also recorded in the CD E-Moon made by Ramon Humet. His music has been played through out Spain, United Kingdom and United States and some of them
have been published at Brotons & Mercadal. He has also worked as musical editor for Periferia Music.
Prizes
He
has won diferent prizes in competitions through out Catalonia: Concurs de Joves
Intèrprets de Vilafranca del Penedès, Concurs Pio Tur
d’Eivissa, Concurs de Berga, Concurs Joan Massià, as
a pianist, and Pòdium per a
grups de cambra a Sant Joan de Vilatorrada, as chamber
music. As a composer he has won
Concurs de Reus per a corals infantils (2002 i 2004), Premi de composició
musical per a joves orquestres Paquita Madriguera d’Igualada (2002, 2003 i
2005) and Concurs de composició de música de cambra
de Vic (2002).
Teaching
He
has taught piano, improvisation,
chamber music and
instrumental and singing repertory in many schools and conservatories
all over Catalonia: “Amics de la Música” in Bellvitge,
Escola Oriol Martorell, Escola de Música de Gràcia, Conservatori Municipal de
Música de Manresa, Conservatori
Municipal de Música de Barcelona, Conservatori d’Igualada, Escola de Música Aulos, Escola
Municipal de Música i Dansa d'Esparreguera, ESMUC, Escola Municipal de Música de
Navarcles, etc. He has also accompanied musical festivals and
courses like the Curs d’Interpretació Musical a Girona, Curs
d’Interpretació Escènica per Cantants given by Magda Puyo,
Curs d’Interpretació de Repertori de Cançó Espanyola i Sarsuela by Isabel Penagos, and also singing
courses by Dolors Aldea. He
has given speeches about his music and other matters
in various music schools in
Catalonia. Today he teaches chamber music and singing repertory
at the Conservatori Municipal de Música
de Sabadell. He also teaches piano, composition, analysis and orchestration
privately.
